The Royals confirmed that they would not offer salary arbitration to catcher Miguel Olivo and other three other eligible free agents by Tuesday's 11 p.m. CT deadline. That means the Royals will not receive a compensation Draft pick for Olivo, if he signs with another club. By having Olivo refuse it, they would have received a selection between the first and second rounds of the First-Year Player Draft from the club that signs Olivo.
The Royals paid Olivo a $100,000 rather than pick up a $3.2 million option for 2010, if he accepted. Kansas City's other three free agents, center fielder Coco Crisp and pitchers Jamey Wright and Bruce Chen, were not rated Types A or B, and the Royals will not give them any compensation if they sign elsewhere.
