Rangers add Shelley from Sharks

The New York Rangers added a different physical element to their lineup, acquiring forward Jody Shelley from the San Jose Sharks for a 2011 draft pick. Shelley had 3 assists 78 penalty minutes in 36 games in the san jose sharks jersey. In nine NHL seasons with Columbus and San Jose, he has 43 points and 1,310 penalty minutes. Brashear, who signed a two-year contract over the summer, had been a healthy scratch in seven-straight games. In 36 games he had 1 assist and 73 penalty minutes.

Shelley will be a free agent on July 1. If the Rangers don't re-sign him, they will give the Sharks their 2011 sixth-round pick. If Shelley stays with the Rangers, they will have to give the Sharks their 2011 fifth-round pick. "Jody Shelley has been a tremendous competitor and teammate for this organization for the past three seasons," said Sharks GM Doug Wilson. "He strived to make a difference on and off the ice in San Jose and he was a leader in both areas."
