D-backs' Davis applies for free agency

It is reported that Davis applied for free agency on Thursday. D-backs infielder Chad Tracy also filed for free agency after the club declined to exercise his 2010 contract option earlier in the day. Tracy instead received a $1 million buyout.
The D-backs explored the possibility of signing Davis to an extension during the season, but the discussions did not go far with the club thinking and Davis looking for a three-year contract.

"I think he's probably done here," D-backs general manager Josh Byrnes said at the end of the season session with reporters. Tracy, who was the team's seventh-round selection in the 2001 First-Year Player Draft, hit .280 with 78 home runs over six seasons for the D-backs. His best year came in 2005 when he hit .308 with 27 homers in the Diamondbacks jersey.
