Boston pitching coach John Farrell has removed himself as a candidate to replace dismissed Cleveland manager Eric Wedge. The sports network's Web site reported that Farrell, completing his third season on Boston's staff, has informed the Indians that he should not be under consideration.
Farrell declined the comment after the loss to the Red Sox on Saturday night.
Due to Farrell's contract, the two clubs had to negotiate his possible return to Cleveland, where he served as director of player development for five years. It is also indicated that in their managerial search, the Indians were expected to interview former Rangers and Mets manager Bobby Valentine, who will complete managing in Japan this week.
